If you're farming Path of Exile 2 in patch 0.5 and you care about raw drops, Expedition is hard to ignore. The Big Boom setup turns a normally slow mechanic into one huge detonation, which means faster maps, bigger fights, and a better shot at valuable PoE 2 Items while you're still moving at a decent pace. It's not a lazy strategy, though. You're looking for the right remnants, the right map pressure, and enough damage to survive the mess you create.

Why the single blast matters

The key Atlas passive is Refined Formula. It gives Expedition explosives far more radius and placement range, but cuts you down to one explosive. That sounds rough until you see it in a map. Instead of placing charges one by one, you drop a single bomb over the best cluster and let everything fire at once. Verisium Remnants are the big target here, because they can add extra runes to other remnants caught in the blast. With several Verisium pieces in range, the encounter can scale very quickly.

Picking remnants that actually pay

You don't want to blast every Expedition without looking. The best runs usually come from remnants with many rune slots, especially around seven to nine. Time Rune effects are especially nasty in a good way, since monsters can come back at higher rarity. Add more monster rarity, modifier transfer, and tough rare packs, and the loot can spill across the screen. It's fun, but it's also dangerous. If your build can't handle stacked rares, don't greed every modifier just because it looks profitable.

Maps, tablets, and Atlas pressure

For steady returns, use high-tier Waystones rather than random low maps. Tier 15 Waystones with six modifiers are the usual target, with monster rarity and monster effectiveness being the stats most players chase. Tablets push the whole thing further. Irradiated Tablets and Overseer Tablets are popular, but any tablet that boosts item rarity or monster strength can work if the map is already worth running. On the Atlas tree, Evolutionary Pressure fits the plan well because it rewards maps with more explicit modifiers. Disengaged Safeties also pairs nicely with irradiated areas, giving the farm a sharper edge.

Don't brick your logbooks

There's one mistake people make once, then never forget. Refined Formula also affects Grand Expeditions. If you open a valuable logbook while that passive is still allocated, you'll only have one explosive, and that can ruin the whole layout. Grand Expeditions need careful multi-bomb pathing to reach caves, ruins, and reward chains. Before charting Uncharted Waters, remove the single-explosive setup. If you'd rather trade than gamble, some players choose to buy PoE 2 Items to support their build, then come back to farm Big Boom maps with better damage and safer clears.
